National police commissioner Riah Phiyega says police members who make themselves guilty of criminality and corruption should face dismissal.

Speaking at the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union's executive committee meeting in Pretoria, Phiyega said corruption was tainting the good image of the many hard-working policemen and -women she had met since her recent appointment.

She warned that negative publicity regarding the police impacts on the image of the country.
