WCED to start with Annual National Assessment tests

The Western Cape Department of Education said over 611 000 Grade 1 to 6 and Grade 9 learners will start writing the 2013 Annual National Assessments. 

Ministerial Spokesperson Bronagh Casey said 1 455 public ordinary schools have registered to write the test as well as 17 special schools and 77 independent schools. 

Casey added that the ANAs are a national based assessment in Language and Mathematics in Grades 1 to 6 and 9.

Casey said the testing will take place over a period of four days but in order to support the teachers and learners to prepare for the tests the WCED upload exam paper on the website, and teachers were also encourage to make use these papers so that the learners became familiar with these papers.
