Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba said migrants play a positive contribution in the country.

He was speaking at the Mkhaya Migrants awards earlier today.

Minister Gigaba emphasised that South Africans need to understand that it is wrong to urge that migrants are a burden on the South African economy and our social services.

Minister Gigaba explained the four important contributions of migration in any society.

“One it’s in relation to economic development whether by investors or people living in the country and contributing critical skills. Secondly they enhance your national security by entering your country as documented migrants and respecting your law. Thirdly immigrants contribute towards your social cohesion and nation building. And finally they contribute towards integrating South Africa into the African continent as well as the world at large” Gigaba added.
