President Jacob Zuma says South African’s should take pride in the election of Home Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma as AU Commission Chairperson.
Presidential Spokesperson Mac Maharaj says the fact that Dlamini Zuma got the job shows a significant commitment by African nations to want to work together.
He added that one of her most important duties will be to improve the unity of the continent.
Meanwhile Political Analyst Gerrie Swart says this appointment is a positive step for African women but there might be challenges ahead.
Swart also said that there are a number of conflicts affecting the continent that she will need to help resolve.
