Western Cape traffic services held various roadblocks over the weekend, braving the winter cold.
Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said they went ahead and held 24 alcohol blitzes despite the cold weather.
Twelve roadblocks were conducted of Friday and Saturday evenings.
Africa said 1496 vehicles were stopped in the roadblocks.
He added that 797 drivers were screened for alcohol.
Ten drivers were arrested in the province for drunk driving.
The highest reading for alcohol recorded was 1,19mg/l in Swellendam.
Africa said three drunken pedestrians were arrested in Vredendal.
He added that 1582 speed screenings was done of which 137 motorists were prosecuted.
Africa said that the highest speed recorded in the bad weather was 150km/h in a 120km/h zone on the N1.
Another motorist did 150km/h in a 120km/h zone near Worcester.
The fatalities for the weekend include two people who died in a taxi accident near Hermanus on Sunday.
