Emotions ran high at the memorial service for the Lonmin mine shooting victims in Marikana today.

Some of the grieving widows wailed and fainted and had to be carried away from the large marquee set up for the ceremony.

Members of the community also gathered outside the tent near the koppie where the tragedy took place.

Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa and Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi are some government officials seen at the service.
