Fire in Parliament building

Florentia Roman

08 September 2012

An electrical fault on a wire on the seventh floor of Parliament’s 90 Plein Street building on Friday triggered a fire alarm.

This made it necessary, as a precautionary measure, to evacuate the building until the fire department had made an investigation and declared it safe.

The 90 Plein Street building houses Parliamentary and government officials, not Members of Parliament.

The incident resulted in a disruption to normal work for about 40 minutes.
