Police Minister calls for firearm control compliance

Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa today said there is a police management team that has been tasked to strengthen firearm control measures with immediate effect.

Mthethwa was responding to a Parliamentary question and said that there is some progress being made in relation to firearm control in some provinces.

Mthethwa also said the task team will particularly focus in provinces where there is no improvement

Spokesperson for the minister Zweli Mnisi said the Minister has cautioned against provinces that do not comply with the system.

Mnisi added that there are measures in place to ensure that there are no firearms in the hands of criminals.
