Missing Children South African said between June 2012 and the end of May 2013, 304 children went missing and 256 were found across the country.

This is a success rate of about 84 percent.  Concern has been raised about the increase of children going missing in Cape Town especially in the last few days.

Missing Children SA’s Social Development and Welfare Coordinator Nicky Rheeder explains the process of reporting a missing person.

Rheeder said that in the event that your child goes missing or someone you know goes missing, firstly you shouldn’t wait 24hours, as there is no waiting period in South Africa.

“Go straight to the police station and report that child or person missing, take along a recent photo and descriptive information about the child or the individual also then contact missing children South Africa and give us the same information and should you have any trouble with the reporting process, you can contact us and we will assist you,” added Rheeder.
