The Independent Police Investigative Directorate arrested a constable who allegedly shot a security guard with his service pistol.
It is believed that the officer was attempting to buy liquor from an outlet in Maitland when the security guard said the outlet was closed for business.
It is alleged that an argument ensued and the security guard was shot in the shoulder and died on the scene.
IPID spokesperson Moses Dlamini said the officer alleged that the security guard threatened him with a knife then the officer shot him, and he died on the scene.
“The IPID obtained statements from witnesses which do not corroborate the version of the policeman; he was then arrested.
“He will appear today in the Blue Downs Magistrate Court on a charge of murder ” Dlamini added
