Corruption Watch: Corruption in schools on the increase

Corruption Watch today said a survey they conducted has revealed that corruption in South African schools is on the increase.

Over 300 cases of corruption in schools have been reported to Corruption Watch since January.

Corruption Watch Director David Lewis said the study was done in order to get some insight into corruption in schools.

Lewis said the increase is a worry because often you are talking about people who should be role models to learners.

The survey identified teachers as having being involved in corruption but Lewis added that this does not mean that every head master, teacher and school governing body member is involved in corruption but it is still disturbing.
