Western Cape government has attracted significant investments through the green economy.

Premier Helen Zille said there has been about R20 billion which has been allocated since 2013 for actual planned investment in the province for renewable energy sector.

Zille said the intention for the province to become a green economic hub is with the aim of creating sustainable job opportunities.

Provincial Government Spokesperson Wouter Kriel said in 2013, our investment mapping found that an estimated R20bn has been allocated to actual and planned investment in the Western Cape renewable energy sector.

He added that our Green Economy Strategy Framework identified a number of priority areas, with key drivers being natural gas as a new and important source of power in the province, facilitation of market opportunities and access to finance, innovation and ensuring the green economy really does work for our poorer communities.
