The National Education Health & Allied Workers’ Union has denounced the Department of Health’s Medical Bureau for Occupational Diseases, following media reports exposing wasteful spending practices.

A newspaper reported that a Department health facility had buying appliances at highly inflated prices.

The union called for the investigation into these allegations in a statement on Tuesday.

NEHAWU Media Liaison Officer Sizwe Pamla explained that corruption has a very negative impact on healthcare and the provisions of healthcare because it wastes valuable resources and costs innocent people their lives.

There has to be strict control measures and improved management systems.

“There has to be a reversal of policies that have introduced healthy “tender-preneurism” in the health sector.” Pamla added
