Metro police arrested 51 suspects and issued 419 traffic fines to motorist’s during weekend operations.
Twelve suspects were arrested in connection with drug related offences.
In Macassar two of the suspects were arrested for the possession of narcotics as well as illegally dealing in liquor.
Later in the same area another suspect was arrested after metro officers acted on a tip off from the community.
Deputy Chief Yolanda Faro says the metro police’s dog and tactical response units executed a search warrant in the J Courts, and upon entering the flat, the officers caught the suspect as he still tried to flush some of the dagga.
On Friday evening during a joint operation with the South African Police Services, nine people were arrested in the Bellville area for drinking in public.
Meanwhile, in Goodwood and Atlantis, two suspects were arrested for theft of a motor cycle and possession of stolen goods. The motorcycle was recovered.
“Two people were arrested for assault whilst one person was arrested for Reckless and Negligent driving in Steenberg.
“Our members had a very busy weekend and the number of arrests affected is proof that we will act accordingly if and when necessary. Apart from the many arrests, our officers issued 419 traffic and eight by-law fines,” said Faro.
