Three suspects have appeared in court for charges of extortion.
This is after the trio alleged blackmailed a retired senior judge of more than R30 000 over the period of four years.
It is alleged that one of the suspects contacted a 90 year old Somerset West judge demanding R3 000.
The judge then contacted the police.
The two were set to meet at Firgrove train station after the blackmailer claimed to be a well-know journalist, who threatening the victim to publish some information about him in a newspaper if he doesn’t meet his demands.
Police spokesperson Constable Suzan Jantjies says they set a string operation and the suspect was arrested on the scene.
He appeared in court on Monday on charges of extortion.
Suspects two accomplices handed themselves to police on Tuesday and they also appeared in court for the same charge.
