Deputy President David Mabuza is expected to chair a meeting of the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) on Tuesday.
This due to President
Cyril Ramaphosa testing positive for COVID-19 and handing his duties to Mabuza.
South Africa has recorded another 13,992 positive cases and 11 deaths have also
been added to the national statistics.
The NCCC will decide whether
or not to tighten lockdown restrictions as a fourth wave of COVID-19 infections
spreads to different provinces.
Premiers and mayors
will also get the opportunity to provide their input before the nation is
addressed about the outcomes. Several businesses have pleaded with the
government not to impose stricter lockdown restrictions this festive season as
it will cause further strain on the industry.
Meanwhile, hospitals
have said that the amount of COVID-related admissions is still not as high as
the previous waves. However, they added that might be too early to determine if
this rate will continue over the next few weeks.
Health Minister Joe
Phaahla is expected to receive his booster shot on Tuesday as part of phase two
of the Sisonke trial vaccination drive.
