Two relevant gangs, however, were not part of the talks, according to Jordaan, who adds that “the police still need to do their work and prosecute those responsible”.

Gangs agree to 7-day truce

13 July 2012
Two rivalling gangs in Lavender Hill have agreed to a 7-day truce.
Prompted by mediators, leaders of the Mongrels and the Junky Funky gang met on neutral ground yesterday to discuss a truce.
Community manager at New World Foundation Llewellyn Jordaan views the meeting as a beginning to peace talks.
“If we can stop the shootings, and the killings of innocent people, that would bring some sort of peace”, says Jordaan.
