A Cape Town woman that was abused when she refused to get onto a taxi may have been trying to avoid a dangerous encounter with a gang.

The Western Cape transport ministry says they were contacted by a young man who claims he was robbed at gunpoint when he got into the same taxi last month.

The woman was punched in the face by the driver when she stopped the taxi but refused to get in.

MEC Robin Carlisle`s Spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said that anyone with information should come forward.
