Gold Fields says around twelve-thousand mine workers continue to strike at their KDC Gold Mine on the West Rand on Monday.

The company released a statement saying the strike which started last week appears to be the result of a National Union of Mineworkers’ internal dispute.

NUM members at the mine are reportedly demanding the resignation of local NUM branch office bearers.

Gold Fields CEO Nick Holland says the safety of employees is their top priority and has called on all stakeholders to act with restraint.
