The City of Cape Town says six schools are set to receive specially trained in-house metro police officers to keep pupils and staff safe.

Member of the City’s mayoral safety and security committee JP Smith says the pilot project will kick off at six schools.

Each participating school in the province will be allocated a SRO, which is a Metro Police officer sworn under oath to maintain peace and security in schools.

The project will start in areas in the Cape Flats area early next year.
