The Congress of South African Trade Union said it had some concerns regarding the report of the Presidential Review Committee on State Owned Entities, which was released this week.

Cosatu Spokesperson Patrick Craven said there is a need for strong development state, which harnesses the developmental potential of Small Owned Entities.

Craven said they want to move away from the tradition which was developed in the late 1990's comodification of basic State Owned Enterprises which end up not playing the role they are meant to play; leading to job losses and worsening services.

"We see this more spectacularly in the problems with Eskom, as part of the process of commercialising it, it was made to stand up on its own two feet.

"This has lead to a serious shortage of generating capacity" Craven added.
