The Democratic Alliance said it is disappointing that the Department of Energy did not spend all the funds allocated for electrification programmes.

This is after the department revealed in Parliament on Tuesday that it had under-spent R131 million on electrification programmes.

The funds of the programme are intended to provide power to households that have never had electricity before.

DA MP of Energy Jacques Smalle said that as the DA they are concerned when departments fail to spend on their allocation.

“The department of energy under spent just over a R130 million on their electrification program that dealt with the municipal energy inefficiency demand site and this is a program that assists toward resources,” added Smalle.
