Minister of Home Affairs Naledi Pandor officially
launched the Home Affairs North West provincial stakeholder forum at the
Setlakgole Stadium in Ratlou Municipality .
Stakeholder forums have been launched by
the Department of Home affairs across the country with a view to assisting the
department to mobilize communities around the National Population Registration
Campaign.
Pandor
said the campaign is aimed at the registration of child birth within 30 days of
delivery, calling on youths of 16 years and above to apply for ID’s and ending
the scourge of late registration of births.
“So that we don’t miss any person in terms
of their rights to access South African citizenship,” added Pandor.
Meanwhile Pandor also visited the local
Madimo Early Learning Centre at as part of the national campaign for the Child
Protection week that came to an end over the weekend, where she handed over
birth certificates.
Minister Pandor also used the opportunity to
condemn the burning of a newborn baby which was found in Honeydew over the
weekend and those who abandon children.
Pandor added that sexual abuse of children
particularly girl children is a very serious problem in South Africa .
“But what we have identified here in Ratlou
is there is a great deal of poverty, there is a lot of unemployment and this
impact on children in that many children go hungry, as a department we will be
providing them with support, in addition to the child grant,” said Pandor.
Furthermore she added that the will also be
providing the families with some nourishment support, through food parcels, in
an effort to alleviate the plight of children who continue to suffer in the
country.
