New smart ID cards to be rolled-out from July

On Tuesday Minister of Home Affairs Naledi Pandor made an announcement regarding the roll out of the new smart ID card.

She said that the first phase of the roll-out will be in July from the 27 allocated branches, they will be the first to get the card, however the greed ID book will still be issued until the end of 2013 when the testing period is over.

She added that in 2014 there will be more than 100 branches equipped and the project will be phased out on a larger scale.   

Pandor added that the card will have relevant information to an individual card holder.
