Corruption Watch has revealed that it is investigating fraud by a principle at a Soweto school.

Thubelihle Intermediate School in Soweto is being investigated for gross fraud and financial misconduct.

CW’s Bongi Mlangeni said the probe forms part of efforts to expose corruption in schools.

By April 2013 CW had received over 180 complaints relating to corruption in schools.

It is alleged that the school principal and the School Governing Body Member frequently cashed cheques amounting to R134 487.56 between 2009 and 2011.

Mlangeni said CW is not in a position to investigate all that cases that are brought to them but they will confront the Education Department and ensure that swift actions are taken against those found guilty.
