The National union of Mineworkers said it has noted Coal of Africa Limited intention to place Mooiplaats Colliery on care and maintenance as well as its intention to embark on Section 189A process.

NUM said it rejects these proposals which are just retaliation against the workers for a strike that haunted the company in the last couple of months.

NUM’s national Secretary for Education Ecliff Tantsi said they warned the company that they do not want a situation in the process whereby they will have to downscale.

Tantsi further called upon the government and the community to fight this proposal because there is not such thing as no production.
