SACCI concerned at developments relating labour relations amendment bill

The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry said it is disturbing by the tenor of deliberations on the Labour Relations Amendments Bill, currently taking place at the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Labour.

The African National Congress Members of Parliament on Tuesday succeeded in removing a clause from the bill that would have required unions to conduct strike ballots.

The bill is currently before parliament's labour portfolio committee.

SACCI Spokesperson Peggy Drosky said the proposed amendments were subject to intensive at NEDLAC where business raised concerns relating to the banning of labour brokers, where agreement was reached on a time span for temporary employment of six months.
