DA: Social Development money could be spent better

The Minister of Social Development Bathabile Dlamini said the National Development Agency budget for the board expenses and expenditure on furniture and fixtures increased by over 600% and 900% in the last two years.

Dlamini revealed this during the parliamentary question in parliament.

The Democratic Alliance said there is absolutely no justification for this.

DA MP for Social Development Mike Waters said the money spent on this could be better spent on programs to alleviate poverty and provide social assistance.

“Ninety nine percent of the department of social development budget went to social welfare services, shifting away from unnecessary internal departmental costs in favour of service delivery to the poor and vulnerble,” Waters said.

He added that if the DA were in government nationally they would do the same.
