The South African Democratic Teachers Union in the Free State has come out and condemned the portrayal of the old South African flag in one of the classrooms at Wilgehof Primary School in Bloemfontein.

Sadtu said the attitude of the teacher and the entire management is despicable.

The school has since suspended the teacher for alleged racism and displaying offensive material in his classroom.

Sadtu’s Provincial Secretary Mokholoane Moloi said Sadtu has been raising these issues but all the time they have been deemed baseless, although in some former model c schools acts of racism still exist.

Moloi added that this incident proves them right and as Sadtu they are happy with the swift actions taken by the Education Department by suspending the principal and the teacher concerned.
