The Congress of the People said it has noted with shame the recent reports relating to the Sedibeng Mayor’s latest episode involving his sustained drinking escapades which led to his arrest on Tuesday on charges of drunk driving.

Cope said as a leader who holds the highest public office in the region Mayor Simon Mofokeng is expected to reflect high moral values and exemplary leadership befitting the office he holds.

Cope provincial Spokesperson Ishmael Maramang Hashatsi said Mofokeng should do the right thing and step down because his conduct clearly shows that he is not fit to run an office.

He added that the Mayor should allow someone who is willing and prepared to work for the community because he seems to be preoccupied with his own issues.
