Police Spokesperson Bernadine Steyn said that the man was arrested on the R305 road shortly after a murder was committed.
Steyn said that it is alleged that the two had an argument at their home in Melkhout Fontein which resulted in the man killing his mother.
“The suspect took an axe and allegedly assaulted his mother, she sustained open wounds to the head and passed away on the scene,” added Steyn.
Steyn furthermore added that the suspect is due to appear in the Riversdale magistrate’s court on Monday.
