WC government said the ANC is dishonest about schools they are closing down in the country

The Western Cape government said the ANC is not being truthful about the amount of schools they are closing down across the country.

This as the Western Cape High Court will hear a review application today on whether provincial education MEC Donald Grant was correct in wanting to close 17 schools down.

Grant announced last year that 27 schools faced possible closure for various reasons.

School governing bodies, parents and civil society representatives voiced their outrage with numerous protests.

Following public hearings, Grant announced in October that he had decided to close only 20 schools.

Leader of the DA in the province Ivan Meyer said the ANC is dishonest about the whole debate regarding school closures, because the ANC is closing 310 schools in the Eastern Cape and in KwaZulu Natal more that 1 000.

“In the Western Cape we are building more schools to make provision for quality education and that’s the difference.

“The ANC has nothing to say about the 310 schools they are closing in the EC and the 1 000 schools in KZN” Meyer added.
