16 motorists arrested during weekend operations in WC

Western Cape Traffic Authorities this weekend conducted 24 roadblocks across the province and 1 937 vehicles were stopped. 

204 fines were also issued for various traffic violations ranging from driver to vehicle fitness. 

The highest speed recorded was on the N1 in the Beaufort West area. 

Head of Communications at the provincial Department of Transport and Public Works Al-Ameen Kafaar said seven fines were issued for speeding. The total amount of fines issued is R 148 000,00.  There were seven fatalities reported over the weekend.

He further cautioned pedestrians to wear bright clothes so that they can be visibly on the road as it is winter now and dark.
