The Northern Cape Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development has called on land users and farmers in the province to practise caution in order to prevent veld fires.
The department’s Phemelo Manankong said
veld fires are mainly caused by the dryness of grass and shrub during this time
of the year.
Manankong said the department is making a
plea to the farmers to be extra cautious at this time of the year because this
is the season of the veld fires.
He added that the veld fires cost a lot of
money from government as well as the farmers themselves because they loose
property and stock.
