An accident in KwaZulu-Natal involving a SUV and a taxi in Escourt left two people dead and four others injured.

It is believed that the two vehicles collided into each other.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene and found the SUV parked on the side of the road. The two occupants were found walking around on scene.

Meiring added that a second vehicle, a wrecked taxi, lay on its side at the bottom of a small embankment. Three bodies lay a few meters away from the vehicle. On assessment, paramedics discovered that one of the men had sustained multiple fatal injuries when he was ejected from the vehicle. Unfortunately nothing more could be done for the patient.

He emphasized that two other patients were found lying outside the vehicle in a critical condition. Paramedics treated and stabilised the patients, providing them with advanced life support. Once treated, both patients were transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. Unfortunately, upon arrival at hospital, one of the critically injured patients succumbed to his injuries.

“Three other occupants from the taxi were found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries. Paramedics treated the patients and thereafter transported them to a nearby hospital for further observations,” Meiring said.
