Western Cape MEC Fritz calls on child safety

Western Cape MEC of Social Development, Albert Fritz, welcomes the arrest by the South African Police Services of a Tubelitsha mother near Delft on charges of child neglect and abandonment.

Fritz says the Department of Social Development has a zero tolerance policy to the abuse of children.

He said that the children aged one, three and nine are placed with a safety parent.

“We have however learnt that the mother has subsequently been released so we will follow that up with the police and find out why the mother was released from custody.” Fritz said.

“Delft sent out a message to all parents that they must take the safe keeping and the wellbeing of their children seriously,” added Fritz
