Samora Machel fire claims three lives

Three people died when a fire spread through the Samora Machel informal settlement in Philippi on the Cape Flats in the early hours of this morning.

 Fire and Rescue spokesperson Theo Layne, says four other people have been displaced and are receiving assistance.

Layne says they responded to Samora Machel informal settlement where we had two structures that were destroyed by fire. The fire left three fatalities and four people were displaced.

Layne added that the cause of the fire is unknown at this stage and the incident was handed over to authorities for further investigation.
