The Western Cape Provincial Parliament’s Standing Committee on Community Safety, Cultural Affairs and Sports has asked the Parole Board to explain releases.

The meeting which will take place in June is to better understand the process of parole.

This follows the current increase in gang related killings.

Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Community Safety,   Cultural Affairs and Sports Mike Wiley the parole system involved, and the criteria applicable to giving people release whether early or not.

“Our concern is being raised because gangsters who have been released on parole, people who have been in the gang culture for a long time, are contributing heavily to the spike in killings in the Cape Flats, so we need to understand the system better” Wiley added.
