 Philippi woman found raped and  murdered on Women’s Day

A woman was found raped and murdered on Women’s Day in Browns Farm, Philippi. The 34-year-old woman’s body was discovered in the early hours of Monday morning, it has been reported that the victim’s body was dumped in water.

Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut confirmed the suspect's arrest. The alleged suspect, who was known to her, was arrested after Browns Farm community members took matters into their own hands. On the morning of Women’s when most South African’s were celebrating woman the Browns Farm community took to the street a protest against gender-based violence.

Suspect is expected to appear at the Athlone Magistrate Court facing rape and murder charges. This is an ongoing case as polices are still investigating the cause of her death.
