The request to deploy troops in gang ridden areas has met with mixed reactions.

At least 23 people have been killed in Lavender Hill as result of ongoing gang violence in recent months.

The Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa visited Lavender Hill on Wednesday and told residents that the deployment of the South African National Defence Force is not a solution.

The African National Congress in the Western Cape says the Democratic Alliance-led provincial metro government must play a role in dealing with the social ills and root causes of gang violence.

The ANC Provincial Spokesperson Songezo Mjongile said that the ANC condemns the ongoing gang violence in the Communities.
