In the early hours of Sunday morning two people were fortunate to escape after a gas truck overturned on the R56 in the Umkomaas Valley.

Netcare 911’s Chris Botha said the truck was apparently carrying a load of cylinders.

The driver then lost control of the truck and the truck rolled.

Botha said the gas cylinders and the truck exploded into flames and fortunately the two occupants crawled to safety before the explosion.

He added that both of the occupants sustained relatively minor injuries.

They were taken to hospital for further care.
