Road still not open on the N1

On Sunday a bad accident occurred on the R43 between Hermanus and Kleinmond just outside Onrus Rivier.

A taxi overturned and two of the occupants died on the scene, while the another two passengers and the driver were seriously injured and taken to hospital.

The Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said the road was closed for about an hour.

He added that with the wet weather and conditions not improving, they would like to urge motorists to be careful when travelling on the roads.

Africa said motorists should not take unnecessary chances and to over take when it is safe to do so.

He said the situation on the road between Beaufort West and Three Sisters, there is no way that people from Cape Town can get to Johannesburg on the N1.

Africa expressed that there is no alternative route and that they would like to urge the people from Cape Town who want to take the N1 to Johannesburg, the road will be closed for the rest of the day.
