The Gauteng health department plans to implement cost savings of one-point-six-billion-Rands over the next few months.
This will be done by managing the compensation of employees, reducing costs associated with pharmaceutical and surgical items, as well as expenses on medical equipment.
The province’s health MEC Ntombi Mekgwe has also confirmed that the department has met its deadline to pay off all suppliers by the end last month.
A total of four-point-four-billion rands in supplier debt was paid from April to June.
