At the South African Communist Party’s 13th national congress, the leadership has been decided.

The national congress took place at the University of Zululand near Empangeni in KwaZulu-Natal.

Secretary-general Blade Nzimande and his deputy Jeremy Cronin were re-elected yesterday morning without being opposed.

Gwede Mantashe was replaced by the president of the National Union of Mineworkers Senzeni Zokwana as he stepped down.

Zokwana will now be the party’s chairman.
