An Eastern Cape man has died while trying to abduct a girl from a village near Butterworth.
Police say the man tried to grab an 18-year-old girl who was collecting water.
The Zingqayi village residents heard the girl scream and rushed to help her when the man fled.
Police spokesman Jackson Manatha says the man fell into the river while trying to get away and drowned.
