National Savings Month being turned into a bad joke

21 July 2012

July has been marked as National Savings Month in SA but Debt Counsellor Deborah Solomon said the idea is being turned into a bad joke by excessive marketing of easy finance and quick personal loans.

She added that some advertisements foster live-now-pay-later attitude by inviting consumers to live the life they want to live now but struggle to pay it off.

She said people often fall for these easy loans online of over the phone.

Solomon added that rather than this month being National Savings Month, more consumers actually received sms’s for quick easy loans.
