Western Cape transport officials on Monday said they were looking for the taxi driver who allegedly assaulted a woman.
The incident took place last Friday in Philippi.
It is alleged that the woman stopped the taxi and then changed her mind.
She was then allegedly beaten by the taxi driver.
The MEC for Transport and Public Works Robin Carlisle spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said the MEC is taking very serious measures and appealing to the public to identify the taxi driver who is said to be Xhosa male who drives a white Toyota Avanza or similar.
Dube said the driver may tote for business regularly on Eisleben Road and surrounding areas.
