Gauteng health department to collect outstanding patient fees

The Gauteng health department is seeking to collect one-point-one-billion-rand it is owed in outstanding patient fees.
Spokesperson Simon Zwane says the collection will be made from medical aids, state organs and other government departments before the end of the financial year.
Zwane says around 900 million rands might not be recoverable.
He adds that this is due to the fact that the fees are owed by destitute or untraceable patients and by medical aids schemes which have been liquidated.
