Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan has defended the Development Bank of South Africa’s decision to appoint Mo Shaik as head of its international subsidiary.
The Democratic Alliance said it would challenge Gordhan to explain the process followed in appointing Shaik, suggesting that his political connections had played a role.
In a statement, Gordhan said the post had been advertised within the Bank and an executive headhunting agency had been involved in identifying nine candidates.
Gordhan says he supports Shaik’s appointment.
