More than 250 Elsies River residents on Thursday received food parcels from the Star International School.

Economic Development MEC Ebrahim Patel attended the event.

Patel said more needs to be done to feed the poor and elderly.

He called on other organisations to work with government to feed the poor.

Meanwhile, non-governmental organisations are currently on a three-day summit in Johannesburg.

The conference is a platform to strengthen relations between government and NGOs.
